Finally, many pesticides and most transformation products have not been widely monitored in surface waters. These factors, and the lack of data on long-term trends, show significant gaps in our understanding of the extent and significance of pesticide contamination on surface waters.   Insecticidal pollution in global water ways receives little attention relative to other pollution sources. Now, a new meta-analysis published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences has found that surface water pollution from agricultural pesticides “constitutes an excessive threat to aquatic biodiversity.” Researchers synthesized peer .

The occurrence and distribution of neonicotinoid insecticides in southern Ontario surface waters were presumably primarily influenced by agricultural activities. To assess the importance of land use, we performed a Principal Components Analysis (PCA) to identify correlations between land use and neonicotinoids (Fig. 2).Cited by: Over surface, ground and raw drinking water samples have been analyzed in the frame of different monitoring projects in Hungary and watercourses in neighboring countries between and Effects of pesticide contamination on ecological farming and drinking water supply have been assessed. Main water pollutant ingredients of agricultural origin in Hungary are Cited by:

Two small creeks, tributaries of the River Ruhr near Schwerte, Federal Republic of Germany, were investigated to reveal the regional agricultural and non-agricultural sources of pesticide inputs and the main pathways to surface water. In addition, the receiving water was monitored for Cited by:

In Figure 4, examples of several relatively well-documented seasonal patterns are shown. To assess the possible risk that agricultural pesticides have on non-target organisms, samples from surface water, stemflow, and throughfall were collected and analyzed. Using the U.S. EPA's aquatic life benchmark data for freshwater, a table was compiled that included the most sensitive values to be evaluated against the pesticides detected in Cited by: Pesticides Found in Surface Waters.

Past studies have detected pesticides in surface waters in all regions of the nation. Of the hundreds of pesticide compounds that have been used in the United States, however, only 98 pesticides and 20 pesticide transformation products were included as analytes in the reviewed studies.
